9-Dec-2018 - Second Sunday of Advent

I am grateful to the various sites from where I picked up ideas for the write-ups, images and videos that happened to touch my heart while preparing myself and my children on this Advent journey in faith .. I have tried giving credits where I could.. I have tailored the materials accordingly to suit my needs. My sincere apologies if I have not given due credit in all places. - Sabrina D'Mello

Reflection
Zechariah's joy knew no bounds but his skepticism blinded him to that great joy that God had promised him. Gabriel had to remind him who he was and where he had come from.  He reminded the foolish priest that he has come from the very presence of God Himself and was sent to bring this great message of good news.

So often we allow our Christmas season to begin with doubts and disappointments which steals the real joy of this joyous season.

Zechariah should have stepped out of the temple, singing aloud and praising God with all his might, instead he had to pay the price for his unbelief, and was left speechless and had to let all these beautiful things - happen to him in silence.

Normally the priest would come out soon after praying but when Zachariah got delayed, the crowd grew apprehensive of his safety. And when he came out, he was supposed to pronounce the priestly blessing, but instead started beckoning them as he couldn't speak!!

And Elizabeth conceived and for five months she hid herself spending time with the Lord, praising Him for taking away the shame of being barren.

…”he did as the Lord’s angel had commanded him.” Despite everything, rejection of the community, the uncertainty of the future, the opinion of others…despite EVERYTHING, Joseph obeyed. Sometimes parents ask us to do things we don’t necessarily want to do or that we think is very “uncool.” Yet, just like Joseph, we are called to obey.

Today be happy for your parents.  Do something to bring a smile on their face especially for your Dad as we honor St Joseph.

Prayer
Lord, often You lead me to follow the right path, but due to peer pressure, I wonder if I will be accepted by standing against all odds.  Forgive me for the times I have not been obedient. Help me to listen as Joseph did and obey You, and those You have placed in authority over me. Amen.

Lets sing along with this carol -

Joseph's Song

What I like about Christmas is ....
that you can make people forget the past with the present.
