15-Dec-2018 - Second Saturday of Advent

I am grateful to the various sites from where I picked up ideas for the write-ups, images and videos that happened to touch my heart while preparing myself and my children on this Advent journey in faith .. I have tried giving credits where I could.. I have tailored the materials accordingly to suit my needs. My sincere apologies if I have not given due credit in all places. - Sabrina D'Mello

Whew -- Christmas is only 2 weeks away!
Do you feel your heart is cleaning out for Jesus -- and making his manger soft?
Don't forget: tomorrow, you will light the rose-colored candle on the Advent Wreath!
Now, let's get going!

Let’s watch the Scriptures Luke 1:46-55

Reflection
Mary is overjoyed.  First the angel brought good news to her and then Elizabeth's greeting.  She is so overwhelmed that she burst out into song and praise, “My soul magnifies the Lord!”

What a curious thing to say. Her mental image of God has grown significantly.  Previously, she thought God would have sent His angel to the high priest’s daughter in Jerusalem, to King Herod’s daughter in the palace, or to a girl from a powerful, influential and wealthy family. She surely didn’t think God would send an angel to a girl like her with no fame, wealth or influence.

But God had noticed her — a young, unknown girl from an insignificant, little town unmentioned throughout the entire Old Testament. God chose her to be the Mother of His Son.

When we recognize our unworthiness, our sin, our failings, then God is ready to magnify Himself in our eyes too. That’s the secret of Christmas.

  Christmas Symbol :

Camel

While it is often assumed that camels are part of the nativity scene and that the wise men came on camels to see the baby Jesus, the Bible never says so.  It is only assumed because it was common for Magi of the time to travel in such a fashion.

This weekend take the “Journey to Bethlehem” and participate in some of the church’s Christmas activities.

Prayer
Lord, just as camels are sometimes stubborn and mean-spirited, I too sometimes have a sinful attitude. Forgive me. I give You all of me, including my imperfections. Give me the grace to be submissive to Your spirit, at work in my soul and through others, so that I may do Your Will. Amen.

Let’s sing along with this carol -

Silent Night
