14-Dec-2018 - Second Friday of Advent

I am grateful to the various sites from where I picked up ideas for the write-ups, images and videos that happened to touch my heart while preparing myself and my children on this Advent journey in faith .. I have tried giving credits where I could.. I have tailored the materials accordingly to suit my needs. My sincere apologies if I have not given due credit in all places. - Sabrina D'Mello

Reflection
After listening to the great news from the angel, Mary just cannot stop herself from visiting her cousin Elizabeth, who is miraculously pregnant in her old age.

With great haste, Mary travels all the way from Galilee to Juda, to the home of Zechariah. Beaming with joy she greets her aged cousin -- and gets the surprise of her life.  In a loud, excited voice Elizabeth proclaims, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” Mary is shocked and delighted. The little baby in Elizabeth's womb leapt for joy, acknowledging homage and adoration, as a proof that the Saviour was already conceived in Mary's womb.

She hasn’t even had the chance to say anything more than “hello,” and immediately Elizabeth knows everything. The Holy Spirit has revealed to her that the Child just beginning to grow in Mary’s womb is actually God’s Son.  What a comfort for Mary. She won’t face the awkward explanation of the circumstances behind her pregnancy, or have to convince the priest’s wife this was all God’s doing. God has led her to the one couple who will be able to fully understand and appreciate the amazing things God has done for both of them.

Each year we bring out our decorations for Christmas, but have you noticed that most of them are in the colors of red and green. The red in the holly berries and the green in the evergreens are all associated with Christmas.  Red reminds us of the blood of Christ, shed for our sins on Calvary, and green is the color of grass and vegetation, hence, of life. Therefore, red and green remind us of suffering and sacrifice and of the life that God has given us through the sufferings of Christ.

Today, as you take time to remember the full extent of what it meant for Jesus to come to earth in the form of a babe, paint your toenails red and green to celebrate!

Prayer
Lord, You came so that You could teach us who You are and share with us what true love is. Then You died and rose again in order to give us the opportunity for life. Grant me the grace to surrender my life to You so that all my suffering and pain may result in spiritual growth, to Your glory, forever. Amen.

Let’s sing along with this carol -

Quiz Time

The magi, as you know, were wise men who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger.
They invented the art of giving Christmas presents.
