Today we celebrate the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul, the event in which the ‘most ferocious enemy of the Church became its most zealous son and missionary’.

St. Paul, named Saul at his circumcision, a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin, was born at Tarsus, the capital of Cilicia. He was a Roman citizen. He was brought up as a strict Jew, and later became a violent persecutor of the Christians.

While on his way to Damascus to make new arrests of Christians, he was suddenly converted by a miraculous apparition of Our Lord. From a fierce persecutor he became the great Apostle of the Gentiles.

Fourteen of his Epistles are found in the New Testament.

He was beheaded in Rome around 66 A.D., and his relics are in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls near the Ostian Way.

Conversion is a lifetime experience!

Things to do

First, it’s OK to be human and act crazy.
Paul might have driven the people around him crazy, but I’m sure that his friends knew that he was absolutely brilliant, absolutely driven and absolutely in love with Christ.

Second, sometimes, you need to be knocked off the horse.
Once we, in our humility, recognize that it is the Lord and the Lord alone who can heal us when we are thrown off, then and only then can true healing begin.

And third, you have to give a person a chance.
In our lives, we have to trust people and to give that second chance, within reason, to our brothers and sisters who have hurt us, to learn to forgive, if not forget.

May we who are already converted to Christ become more fully converted to the teachings of Christ in all we do and say.

January 13th - Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord

I am grateful to the various sites from where I picked up ideas for the write-ups, images and videos that happened to touch my heart while preparing myself and my children on our journey in faith .. Today the Church celebrates the
Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord

This brings to an end the season of Christmas. This feast is usually celebrated on the Sunday after Epiphany.

The event takes on the importance in which the entire Trinity intervenes.

The baptism of Jesus is described in the gospels of MatthewMark and Luke
John's gospel does not directly describe Jesus' baptism.

Many of the incidents which accompanied Christ's baptism are symbolical of what happened at our Baptism.

At Christ's baptism the Holy Spirit descended upon Him; at our Baptism the Trinity took its abode in our soul.

At His baptism Christ was proclaimed the "Beloved Son" of the Father; at our Baptism we become the adopted sons of God.

At Christ's baptism the heavens were opened; at our Baptism heaven was opened to us.

At His baptism Jesus prayed; after our Baptism we must pray to avoid actual sin.

So as we come to the conclusion of this Christmas Season, let us celebrate not only Jesus’ baptism, but our own.

Things you can do :

Bless yourself with Holy Water.

6-Jan-2019 - Conclusion

Thank you for your time and patience in celebrating Christmas along with me in this religious journey.

Now that we have reached the end, I hope you enjoyed the Biblical road through the Birth of Our Lord Jesus, as much as I enjoyed compiling it all
together.

Will meet again for a spiritual journey in Lent. In the meanwhile, I will post religious festivals as and when they occur in order that we stay updated with the Lord.

Your feedback if any, would be greatly appreciated.

A Big God Bless !!!

Yours truly

Sabrina Demelo

6-Jan-2018 - The Epiphany of Our Lord

I am grateful to the various sites from where I picked up ideas for the write-ups, images and videos that happened to touch my heart while preparing myself and my children on this Advent journey in faith .. I have tried giving credits where I could.. I have tailored the materials accordingly to suit my needs. My sincere apologies if I have not given due credit in all places. - Sabrina D'Mello

Epiphany marks the liturgical zenith of the Advent-Christmas season.

The figures of the wise men have reached Bethlehem, completing the nativity scene.

The custom of blessing the home on this day probably originated from these words in the Gospel, "And entering into the house, they found the Child with Mary, His Mother, and falling down they adored Him." Sprinkle some holy water in the rooms of your house to protect it and bring blessings.

Though the Season of Christmas liturgically ends on Epiphany and Christmas decorations are taken down, but the celebration of Christ's entry into our lives will forever remain.

Reflection

Mary’s recollections of that first Christmas are drawing to a close. After completing all the tasks God’s Law laid out for them to do, Joseph and Mary returned to Nazareth, where they would raise Jesus to be strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and have the grace of God upon him.

We know from Matthew’s account the reason the couple first left Bethlehem was because Herod sent soldiers to murder the Christ Child, after the wisemen had come to visit. After spending some time in Egypt, they returned to Nazareth.

We pray that we too like Mary can raise children who are spiritually strong, strong enough to resist the pressures of this world.

Even though the trappings of Christmas are gone for another year, the Christ Child has come into our homes, and our lives will never be the same again.

Christmas Symbol :
Wisemen

(Credits:https://i0.wp.com/john23rd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/three-kings.gif?w=322)

It is often speculated that there were three kings, magi, or wise men because the Bible mentions three gifts. Yet scripture never specifies how many wise men came to see Jesus. So were there only three kings? No one really knows. Yet the question remains, why these gifts? Well to begin, each of these gifts were very rare, valuable, and precious in Jesus’ time. Yet in Jesus’ case they were also symbolic of who Jesus was—pure as gold, divine as the burnt offerings of frankincense, and the Savior who would die, be embalmed with myrrh, and rise again to the amazement of all.

Prayer
Lord, you guided the three kings with the help of the star, help me to see your guiding light rise up in front of me ready to guide me. Grant me the grace to trust in You and to follow. Amen.

The Eve of the Feast of the Epiphany is the twelfth day of Christmas, and tonight is known as the "Twelfth Night". Today the three kings should be placed close to Jesus in your crib.  In some homes, gifts are not given on Christmas Day but on the eve of Epiphany to mark the gifts given by the Magi.

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
Twelve Drummers Drumming

The twelve points of doctrine in the Apostles' Creed: 1) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. 2) I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. 3) He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. 4) He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell [the grave]. 5) On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. 6) He will come again to judge the living and the dead. 7) I believe in the Holy Spirit, 8) the holy catholic Church, 9) the communion of saints, 10) the forgiveness of sins, 11) the resurrection of the body, 12) and life everlasting.

Let’s watch the Scriptures Luke 2:34-35

(Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnkDMQmHeYE)

Reflection
After blessing God, Simeon turns to Mary and says something strange. She will see the nation of Israel reject their Messiah and speak against God. This is not what Mary expected to hear about her baby, and probably never imagined would happen.

Simeon warns that when He is grown and begins His ministry, there will be the rising of believers and also the falling of those who reject the salvation He came to bring.

But Simeon tells her that mothering the Messiah would not be all sweetness; she will feel as if a sharp sword is piercing through her own soul.

In all the Christmas memories Mary shares with Luke, for the first time Mary feels sad. She not only remembers the moment when Simeon prophesied it, but she recalls those bitter hours when she stood beneath the cross of her beloved Son Jesus Christ.

But the cloud quickly passes as she remembers that three days after dying, her mighty Son rose to life again.

 Christmas Symbol :
Snowflake

(Credits: https://tenor.com/view/snowflake-gif-7417660)

Since snow falls during this time of the year in the Northern hemisphere, snowflakes have naturally come to be associated with Christmas. Did you know that every single snowflake is different? There are no two snowflakes exactly alike. God made each of us unique as well. There is no one else just like you! He had a plan for your life before you were even born. He loves you and created you to fulfill a special purpose.

Today, keep warm, especially if it’s snowing and enjoy some hot chocolate. While you’re at it create some snowflakes using white paper and scissors to decorate your refrigerator or room. No doubt about it, every one is sure to be unique!

Prayer
Lord, thank you for creating each one of us unique and special. Help me to use my uniqueness for you and instill in me the boldness to fulfill the special purpose you have created me to further your kingdom. Amen.

On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
Eleven Pipers Piping

The eleven Faithful Apostles: 1) Simon Peter, 2) Andrew, 3) James, 4) John, 5) Philip, 6) Bartholomew, 7) Matthew, 8) Thomas, 9) James bar Alphaeus, 10) Simon the Zealot, 11) Judas bar James. (Luke 6:14-16). The list does not include the twelfth disciple, Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus to the religious leaders and the Romans.

Reflection
Simeon steps up to the young couple and takes the Child in his arms. True joy. He says, “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your Word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation.” He had spent years anxiously waiting to see the consolation of Israel, and now the suspense has finally ended. Looking down into the face of the Christ Child, he knows he can live out the rest of his life with this peaceful, joyous memory.

Joseph and Mary both marvel at the things Simeon says about Jesus.  For the first time they learn He has come not only for the people of Israel, but for people of all nations. We, like Simeon, have looked upon the Christ Child, our Lord and Savior and can pass the rest of our days in peace and faith.

Christmas Symbol :
Yule Log

(Credits: https://thumbs.gfycat.com/HospitableFaithfulAsiaticlesserfreshwaterclam-size_restricted.gif)

A Yule log is a large log which is burned in the hearth as part of traditional Christmas celebrations. Yule, means sun, was a festival in honor of the sun god. Here the Yule log reminds us of the Cross which is made of wood. As the burning log gives light as it “dies,” so the death of Christ on the cross brought our world from the darkness of sin into the light of faith.

Today we no longer burn yule logs or wood but instead you could bake a cake in a yule log shape and remember this tradition of long ago which got associated with the season of Christmas

Prayer
Lord, You do all things so well. In this pagan symbol, You foreshadowed the sacrifice of Your Son. Lord of Light and Life, may the fire of Your Love illumine my life and make me an apostle for You. Amen.

Feast Of The
Most Holy Name Of Jesus
Today the Church celebrates the Most Holy Name of Jesus. We read in Sacred Scripture how the angel Gabriel revealed that name to Mary: "You shall call His name Jesus." And to St. Joseph the angel not merely revealed the name but explained its meaning: "You shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.

Make it a habit to bow your head slightly at the name of Jesus.

On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
Ten Lords A-leaping

The ten commandments: 1) You shall have no other gods before me; 2) Do not make an idol; 3) Do not take God's name in vain; 4) Remember the Sabbath Day; 5) Honor your father and mother; 6) Do not murder; 7) Do not commit adultery; 8) Do not steal; 9) Do not bear false witness; 10) Do not covet. (Exodus 20:1-17)

Let’s watch the Scriptures Luke 2:25-27
(Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnkDMQmHeYE)

Reflection
As Joseph and Mary carry Baby Jesus into the temple courts, a certain man named Simeon too enters. Mary describes Simeon in almost the same way as Zechariah. Both men were righteous through their belief in God, god-fearing and waiting anxiously for the Savior.

The Holy Spirit had given Simeon a remarkable promise: he would not die before he had seen the Christ. What a great privilege!

Simeon felt a divine feeling from the Holy Spirit urging him to go to the temple. As he passes through the temple courts, he is drawn to a baby being carried by His parents.

Those who would like to see Christ must go to the Church and you will find him there in faith.

Christmas Symbol :
Ginger Bread Man

(Credits: https://th.picmix.com/stamp/gingerbread-man-walking-gif-1076863)

The origin of Gingerbread dates back to ancient times when ginger was known for its medicinal properties, often used for curing stomach aches. The first gingerbread man is credited to Queen Elizabeth I, who impressed important visitors with charming gingerbread portraits while the tradition of baking a Gingerbread house began in Germany after the Brothers Grimm published their collection of German fairy tales (which included the story of Hansel and Gretel) in the early 1800s.

Gingerbread has a unique flavor because the spice, ginger, is so distinctive. As Christians we also have a distinct flavor---it's what Christ said others will know us by. We should be that Christian that's baked up and ready, full of God's love, and willing to share the true meaning of Christmas with others.

Prayer
Dear Lord, put in me the ingredients that best reflects Your love so that others may know I'm Your child. And let me rely on Your strength so that I won't crumble and fall apart even when life gets hot. Amen.

Nine Ladies Dancing

The nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit: 1) love, 2) joy, 3) peace, 4) patience, 5) kindness, 6) generosity, 7) faithfulness, 8) gentleness, and 9) self-control. (Galatians 5:22)

Let’s watch the Scriptures Luke 2:22-24
(Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnkDMQmHeYE)

Reflection
Today’s devotion is about the day Jesus, being the first born male child, was set apart as holy to the service of the Lord. He was presented at the temple in Jerusalem, when he was 40 days old. Luke emphasizes the fact that both the parents of John and Jesus fulfilled all that was required by the law.

For the presentation, the rich were required to bring a lamb, but the poor or middle class could either offer two turtle doves or two pigeons.  Mary and Joseph offered two doves proving their sanctified state of poverty and that it is not dishonorable to be poor.

In His presentation, Jesus was officially set apart and presented to the Lord for the unique work He would undertake. Through faith in Him, God sets you and me apart from all people, so we may serve the Lord and share Jesus’ story with those around us.

Christmas Symbol :
Gifts

The wise men instilled the concept of gift giving at Christmas when they brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to honor Baby Jesus.

Today God also gives us the gifts of the Holy Spirit which help us to follow God's direction in our lives. The seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Knowledge, Piety, Fortitude, and Fear of the Lord. Appreciate the gifts and use it to its full.

Prayer
Lord, this Christmas I ask that you to send your Holy Spirit to revive me. Help me to be humble and always remain in awe of you which will form the fabric of my life.  Amen.
