12-Dec-2018 - Second Wednesday of Advent

I am grateful to the various sites from where I picked up ideas for the write-ups, images and videos that happened to touch my heart while preparing myself and my children on this Advent journey in faith .. I have tried giving credits where I could.. I have tailored the materials accordingly to suit my needs. My sincere apologies if I have not given due credit in all places. - Sabrina D'Mello

Reflection
Mary asks the angel, how can this be, since I do not know a man?  Mary's question is logical because she believed unlike Zachariah who demanded a sign due to his skeptical unbelief. The angel also told Mary that the Holy Spirit would descend upon her and assist her on this mission. All of us have been stained by the original sin handed down by our first parents Adam and Eve. Had Jesus been born through Joseph and Mary, he too would have to be born with the original sin and then he could not be considered as a Savior.

God sent His Son into the world, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born free of our guilt. Jesus was able to be our perfect substitute, living the perfect life you and I cannot live.

  Christmas Symbol :
Mistletoe

Mistletoe is an aerial parasite that has no roots of its own. It gathers its strength and food from the tree to which it has been attached to.  Without this attachment, it could not live for long. During Christmas, Mistletoe is looked upon as a symbol of our love which derives its existence only because we are attached to God and God loves us. God, Who is Love, created us in love and caused us to be able to love.

Just as mistletoe may not acknowledge the tree which sustains it, so people may not acknowledge that the love of God sustains them. But if mistletoe were taken from the tree and any person removed from God’s love, both would die.

Prayer
Lord, You are my God and my Divine Lover. Increase in me my love for You and for my neighbor. Perfect my love and help me to love unselfishly as You love me. Amen.

Quiz Time

He had this look for about a year. He usually grows this beard out around Christmas. He likes to go to malls dressed as Jesus, and then walk around the mall and go, ‘No! No! This wasn’t what it was supposed to be about, people!’ Then if there’s a Santa at the mall, he would walk up to him and say, ‘Listen, fat man, you’re just a clown at my birthday party.’”
